Written by CMG Staff on Fri, Nov 28th, 2008

Three scoots with three different styles.

SYMPLY 50

symply50_lsf.jpg
Symply 50

The Symply is a relatively conventionally styled scoot with 12 inch wheels, a disc up front and a drum rear brake. Powered by a four-stroke motor with forced-air cooling, max claimed power is 3.16 hp, with 2.14 ft.lb of torque – making it the least powered of the three.

Claimed fuel economy is 2 litres/100 km and dry weight is 95 Kg. To prevent theft there's a tamper proof ignition switch cover and a hidden kill switch under the seat. Oh, and there's a back-rack too! MSRP is $1995.00

MIO 50

Mio 50

The Mio is styled like the Honda Jazz/Yamaha Vino with a "retro-urban" look. 10 inch wheels, a disc front and drum rear and a seat height of 710 mm. Like the Symply, the Mio uses a four-stroke motor with forced-air cooling, but in a slightly higher state of tune with a claimed 3.75 horses on tap and 2.15 ft-lb of torque. Claimed fuel economy is 2 litres/100 km

It's also lighter than the Symply with a claimed dry weight of 84.5 Kg. As per the Symply, there's a tamper proof ignition switch cover and a hidden kill switch under the seat. Talking of which, the seat can be opened with one touch (with the motor still running) and the fuel cap springs open when you turn the key to keep yer mits nice and clean!

MSRP is $2.395.00.

JET EURO 50

Jet Euro 50

And finally, the Jet Euro 50 is a sporty styled scoot with 12 inch wheels and a large (for a scooter) 190 mm front disc brake (with two-piston caliper) and a drum out back. In order to gain on power (max of 4.29 hp), the Jet Euro is powered by a two-stroke motor with forced air cooling. As a result, claimed fuel economy is down a tad to 2.5 litres/100 km.

Dry weight is 95 kg and MSRP is $2,605.00.

Fiddle II takes its styling cues from Vespa.

Looking quite Vesperesque, the Fiddle II comes with a choice of either a 50 cc or 125 cc air-cooled, four-stroke motor. Both motors are air-cooled, with the 50 making a claimed 3.15 hp and the 125 an altogether more impressive 8.38 hp. Claimed fuel consumption is 3 litres/ 100 km for the 125 and 2 for the 50.

It looks like both scoots use exactly the same chassis with a 160 mm disc brake up front (with two-piston caliper) and a drum rear. Wheels are 12 inchers, seat height is a lofty 800 mm and claimed dry weight is 99 kg for the fifty and an extra 10 kilos for the 125. There's also a luggage rack at the back.

MSRP for the 50 is $2,595.00 and $3,695.00 for the 125.

HD 200

Big 16" wheels make the HD.

The HD 200 is a bit like the Aprilia Scarabeo, only not as ugly. Like the Scarabeo, it defines itself with a pair of rather large 16 inch diameter wheels (which should make it less twitchy) on an otherwise quite regular looking scooter base.

Power is provided by a 171 cc four-stroke single with a four-valve head, liquid-cooling and electronic fuel injection. This produces a claimed horsepower of 15.3 with 11.3 ft-lbs of torque. Claimed fuel economy is 4.75 litres per 100 km.

Braking is by a 220 mm front disc/twin piston caliper and a drum rear (we think). Claimed dry weight is 135kg and the MSRP is $3,995.00.

250 maxi scooter

We used to think of 'Maxi Scooters' as 400 cc plus machines, but there seems to be an increasing number of 250s that are adopting the maxi-scoot style and the RV250i is one of them.

It's powered by a four-stroke single cylinder 250 cc motor, with a four valve head, liquid cooling and fuel injection. That translates to a claimed 21 hp and 16 ft-lb of torque.

13 inch wheels use disk brakes front and rear which are linked through the left hand lever (operating the front and rear) while the right lever just operates the front brake. Under-seat storage is a claimed 45 litres (should be good for two lids) with adjustable lumbar support for the rider.

Seat height is 760 mm and dry weight is a claimed 173 kg. MSRP is a claimed $5,595.00. Okay, that might be proven.

Citycom 300i

citycom300i_lsf.jpg

Despite the title, the Citycom 300 only actually gets an additional 12 ccs over the RV250 with a very similar single cylindered four stroke motor with liquid-cooling and fuel-injection. As such horsepower is the same at a claimed 21 (albeit at a slightly lower rpm) although there is a bit more torque on hand at 17.3 ft-lb.

Unlike the RV, the Citycom comes with large diameter 16 inch wheels and slightly larger disk brakes fore and aft. The bigger wheels mean a slightly taller seat height of 800 mm. Dry weight is a claimed 184 kg.

Under-seat storage is supposedly big enough for two helmets and there's a large windscreen to keep the elements off the rider.

MSRP is $5,895.00.
