Mad Bastard Scooter Rally
MBSR - FAQ Print E-mail

Okay, so you have some questions do ya? Well that's good, but since this is a non-interactive page then you can ask as many questions as you like, but no-one's listening!

However, before you get irate, we have done our best at being psychics and predicting what exactly you may be thinking so that we can counter those very thoughts with our own well-researched answers.

How do you define a scooter?

This is a moped ... which does qualify.

Yeah, that’s not as easy as it sounds. Traditionally scooters have been small wheeled, auto-transmissioned, step-through framed and of small capacity. But there’s at least one scoot out there that defies one of those definitions ... expect for the step-through frame (as in you don’t have to swing your leg over the saddle, you merely step-through it and plonk your arse down).

So that’s pretty much our definition, but if you have something that you’d like to ride the rally on and you’re not sure, please shoot us an email with a pic and we’ll give you a quick judgment on it.

Oh, and we also allow mopeds into the rally. These are much easier to define as they have pedals to assist the motor and look very geeky.

Is this rally only open to scooter and mopeds or can I ride my small capacity motorcycle?

It may only be a 125, but it does not a scooter make.

This is a pretty common question. Although we'd like to be able to accommodate non-scooters, I think demand this year with just the scooters alone is going to make the idea a moot point. However, we are thinking that it might be an idea to do another rally in between the two-yearly cycle of the Mad Bastard and have it open to all.

What's the difference between a Rally and a Race?

Plenty. A rally is more of a relaxed event with emphasis on being a social get-together and a less competitive nature. A race is geared about competing to win and usually that's determined by who's the quickest.

The Mad Bastard Scooter Rally is an event that takes place on public roads and requires that all participants obey the law. There is no reward for going fast and taking risks. In fact, it's more likely to get you disqualified.

Okay, so this might be just our definition, but it's important to realize that whatever it is, the MBS Rally is not a race.

My better half/friend is doing the rally and I’d like to come as support but not compete. Can I register just for the presentations on the Friday and Sunday?

It all depends on our seating capacity but we do normally have some spare seats for guests. There is a charge for this as there is food included too.
