The Route
The start location and finish will be in Gatineau, Quebec (just across
the river from Ottawa, Ontario) and the ride
will head west and then loop south into Ontario, before coming back
east and north into Ottawa and then Gatineau where a cold beer and warm
bed awaits.
This year we'll be adding a short section of 'Mystery Ride' (courtesy
of mystery ride guru Greg Henderson). If you don't know what this
means, basically you'll have to navigate through a section that has no
map, just stuff like "turn towards the barn". Hopefully there will be a
barn along one of the directions, otherwise you're already lost. Points
will be awarded upon proof of completion.
As with the 2007 event we will be having an additional loop to bring
the total kms close to around the 800 km mark. The main route is likely
to be about 600 km, but you'll have to make the decision to do the
extra loop around the 550 km mark. Of course, they'll be lots of points
at stake for the extra loop so if you want to win then ...
We will be providing you with detailed maps, and the check-in
locations at the Friday Riders' Meeting, however be sure to bring along
a map of Ontario and Quebec for in case you get lost or need to bail
at some point.
Main Sponsor
Without sponsors we wouldn't be able to pull off something like the Mad Bastard Rally, so we want to make it clear that without KYMCO
Canada's generous and whole-hearted support of the 2009 Mad Bastard
Scooter Rally, there simply would be no rally. Thanks in advance and if
you want to check out all that KYMCO have to offer, then we suggest you check out their website.
Oh, they've also gone and set up a Mad Bastard Scooter Rally page up on Facebook. And while we're on the subject of linking to other sites, the Toronto Moto Scooter Club has a very, very long thread about the rally on their site.
The MBSR charity
For this year’s rally we have really embraced
the idea of having a charity benefit from our insanity. Kids Help Phone is a nation
wide organization that has been helping Canadian children for over 20 years. Established
in 1989, Kids Help Phone (kidshelpphone.ca) is the only
toll-free, national, bilingual, phone and web counseling, referral and
information service for children and youth. It's open 24 hours a
day, 365 days a year.
Participants of the rally will be asked to
collect pledges prior to the rally date with all proceeds going to Kids Help
Phone (pledge forms will be made available). The more money you raise, the more Mad Points you’ll earn for the
rally! Oh, and you’ll also earn raffle tickets for the charity raffle
on the Friday night, so be sure to fleece your family and friends for whatever you can get your hands on!
