1971 Sportster (not the stolen one)

Never give up hope — that's the lesson from an eBay sale that produced a Harley-Davidson stolen 34 years ago.

U.S. prosecutors say a Cranford, New Jersey, man who purchased the 1971 Sportster on eBay for $2,400 called Harley-Davidson for information about the bike — and learned that it had been stolen, on Hallowe'en 1974, in Providence, Rhode Island.

Apparently, several recent owners, including the person who put the bike on an eBay auction, were unaware that the Sportster had been stolen.

Ebay will reimburse the Cranford man for his wasted $2,400. The original owner is being traced.

Perhaps the most fascinating aspect to this story is that someone paid $2400 for 1971 Sportster.
