Join the army, learn to read ... er, ride

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation has set up an advanced rider course for U.S. military personnel in order to cut down on crashes.

The MSF says the course is targetted specifically toward sport bike riders, who are involved in an increasing number of crashes.

It's an advanced rider course, to be taken after a rider has completed the MSF's basic course.

A classroom session looks at rider behaviour, attitude, and risk assessment, with discussions on braking efficiency, cornering techniques, and traction management. A riding session works on important and basic skills like braking, cornering, and swerving.

There's also a handy booklet the military students can take home, with a picture of Ben Spies, AMA Superbike champion, on the cover.

The course is available to all branches of the U.S. military.
