F800R looking good.
BMW's latest model in the F800 series is the new $9,990 F800R naked roadster.
The F800R emulates, according to BMW, the K1300R in design. It's powered by the firm's 798 cc parallel twin, but a new exhaust system gives it two
more power, with 87 hp at 8,000 rpm.
Unlike the F800S and ST, the F800R uses an O-ring
chain instead of a belt, a slightly longer, and double-sided, swingarm,
and shorter ratios in fourth to sixth gears.
With a tank of gas, the F800R weighs 204 kg.
Options include ABS, an on-board computer and tire pressure sensor, among other items. It's available in White Aluminum Metallic, Flame Orange, and Alpine White/Black Silk.
BMW's A special edition Chris Pfeiffer model will be available for $1,350 more, with an
Akrapovic rear silencer, a red rear shock spring, a painted passenger
seat cover, no cockpit fairing, and other cosmetic changes. Chris
Pfeiffer is a stunt champion who uses the F800.
You can read CMG's test of the F800R here. More info from BMW Canada here.
Oh, and BMW's first parallel twin model, the F800S, is discontinued this year.

G650GS

The old F650GS comes back in G form!
Although it's new in BMW's 2010 line-up, the G650GS Enduro is not new to Canadian riders. Formerly known as the F650GS (which is still in BMW's line-up but is based on the F800GS platform), it is powered by a liquid-cooled, four-valve 652
cc single.
In its latest incarnation, the G650GS gains three horsepower, now rated at 50, and it has upgraded brakes with standard ABS. Heated grips are also standard.
The former, single-cylinder F650GS was quite popular, and the G650GS promises to follow in its footsteps with a reasonable $8,750 price tag. Available in black or red, options include a lowering kit that drops seat height to 750 mm from 780 ($200),and a centre stand ($170).
BMW's R1200RT gets some changes for 2010 and a price of $20,200. It's
now powered by the HP2 Sport's 1,170 cc flat twin that makes 110 hp at
7,750 rpm and 88 lb-ft of torque at 6,000.
Other new features include partly integrated ABS, electronic
suspension adjustment, an improved fairing shape, new signal switches,
and rubber mounted handlebars. An optional audio system will work with
your iPod or USB stick.
The R1200 GS and GS Adventure get the same high performance motor with a
six-speed transmission with higher second gear ratio and sell for
$17,650 and $20,300 respectively.
