The new Multistrada 1200 is the first Ducati to incorporate fly-by-wire
throttle control, and power can be tailored through four different
riding modes.
A new liquid-cooled 1,198 cc Testastretta 11° engine claims 150
horsepower. The “11°” signifies a change in valve overlap from the
41-degree overlap of the 1198 engine to 11 degrees, which results in
smoother combustion and reduced exhaust emissions and fuel consumption.
Ducati Traction Control (DTC) is standard on the three Multistrada 1200
models (standard, S Sport and S Touring), and selecting one of the four
riding modes adapts the DTC for specific riding environments.
Ducati also introduces an electronically controlled suspension on the
Multistrada 1200, similar in function to BMW’s ESA system. Called the
Ducati Electronic Suspension (DES), the rider can choose from one of
four settings that automatically adjust the preload and damping for a
rider only, to rider with passenger and luggage.
And in red.
The S Sport has some carbon-fibre bits and standard DES and ABS, while
the S Touring subtracts the Sport model’s racy carbon bits with
panniers that offer either 57 litres capacity, or large lid versions
with a 77-litre capacity, as well as heated handgrips and a centre
stand.
All Multistradas have a windscreen that is adjustable over a 60 mm
range, keyless operation (a key fob in the pocket activates the
ignition when within two metres of the bike) as well as a 20-litre fuel
tank.
The standard Multistrada sells for $17,495; ABS adds $1,000 to that. If you chose the S Sport or S Touring, you'll be paying $20,995.

Hypermotard 796
Written by CMG Staff on Mon, Jan 4th, 2010
The 796 drops 20 mm of height over the 1100.
Ducati now offers its popular Hypermotard in a new size.
Everything has been reduced on the new Hypermotard 796: engine
displacement, weight, seat height, and the price too.
Ducati claims the air-cooled V-twin is an all-new
two-valve-per-cylinder design claiming 81 horsepower and 56 lb-ft of
torque. An APTC slipper-type wet clutch will smooth deceleration.
Weight savings are due in part to many new components, including
redesigned tripleclamps and a new frame that does away with many of the
forgings used on the Hypermotard 1100 frame. Claimed dry weight is 167
kg (368 lb).
Seat height has been dropped 20 mm to 825 mm compared to the 1100,
which also makes the 796 Hypermotard a lot less ganguly in appearance.
Price is $11,495 and it's available in black, red or black with white tank covers.
Check out CMG's launch report on the new Hypermotard here and/or Ducati North America's website here.

Hypermotard 1100 EVO
Written by CMG Staff on Thu, Jan 7th, 2010
The SP version of the Hypermotard.
Also new from Ducati is the redesigned Hypermotard 1100 EVO.
A new engine and frame are lighter, reducing weight by 7 kg
(15.5 lb). Power output is also up by 5 hp to 95. Colour options are Black or Red and MSRP is C$14,995.
A higher-spec SP version has longer suspension for more cornering
clearance, with a Marzocchi fork and Ohlins shock. Lighter Marchesini
wheels are used, onto which are spooned a pair of sticky Pirelli Diablo
Supercorsa SP tires.
The SP retails for C$17,995. More info on the SP is available on Ducati's website.
