Hi guys, great site; keep up the good work.

Just bought a 2006 Honda ST 1300, brand new, never left the show-room. Made some 1000 km in 4 days; love the bike with a couple of reservations:

• My feet are getting warmer than I'd expected (when I take a closer look at the exhaust routing, it makes sense; not a big deal),
• Clutch engagement has "moved" to the very top of lever-travel; it doesn't slip, but it engages at the very top. Talked to the dealer (not very professional bunch BTW, still missing my second key, user manual, tool-kit, additional accessories I bought and paid for...) they say clutch is self-adjusting and "they are all that way".

Question 1: Is clutch adjustment on 2006 Honda ST 1300 really automatic?

Question 2: Do they all really engage at the very top of lever travel?

Thank you in advance,

Vladimir Scekic

This from Honda Canada's Warren Milner:

1. ST clutch is self adjusting.

2. It does engage near end of travel but hard to say if this is normal or not without seeing it. If it is abnormal it would be because there is air in the line. A dealer should be able to tell very quickly.

It would be interesting to know who the dealer was who wasn't helping. At the least the dealer should have been able to let him try another one for comparison.

Yes, the hydraulic clutch system on your machine is self-adjusting, BUT having the system bled could remove unwanted trapped air and move the engagement point.

Keep on your dealer to investigate further.

Better yet, find a competent local mechanic to do a check-over to find other things the numb.... might have missed on their PDI. It's been sitting a while but, that doesn't mean it doesn't deserve a good look-over by someone who cares.

My 2006 st1300 also clutch also grabs at the very end of the movement, I asked the dealer (who owned the same bike) and he did not have an answer. Sounds like thats the way the clutch is designed. At least I'm not the only one with this issue. I did see an article about using a CBR adjustable clutch lever on the st1300 but that will not change when the clutch catches just the hand position.

CBR1100XX blackbird did exactly the same thing. Didn't make any difference, never slipped, never had any problems.

Sorry to hear about the lousy service :(
Did everything work out in the end?
